House Belville

Location: Belville, WC
Program: Residential Alterations
Area: 85m2

Progress: Construction

The owners of this home were in need of some extra space and an area to call their own, thus this second storey addition was discussed and planned with the client. The idea was to add a staircase in the open plan dining and kitchen area to access the space above the existing living area which already had a slab built to add a second storey. It just came down to good space planning on the existing ground floor to avoid taking up too much space and making sure the spaces still flowed nicely.

Thus the staircase was placed to one corner of the dining room without affecting the flow from kitchen to dining into the living area. The roof above this area will be removed and replaced with a light timber floor structure to form part of the new upstairs area.

As you walk upstairs from the dining area, you walk into a study/crafts/pajama lounge space which is private from the rest of the house. To the right is a large bathroom area with walk-in shower and double vanity providing the client with a luxurious bathroom space to call their own. To the left is a door that leads into the main double-storey extension which forms the main bedroom and walk in dressing area which is separated by a singular wall. The bed faces large sliding doors which will create a Juliet balcony brining in North sunlight to ensure this space is comfortable to relax in. A new gable end roof will be added to this space with open beams to create a lovely open bedroom space.

Some of the alterations and additions around the house were to help better improve existing spaces so they become more livable, such as:

A) A new roof was added over the existing braai/sunroom area which leads onto the lovely pool area.

B) The pool area will have new paving and landscaping added along with a pergola on the North end of the garden

C) One of the existing bedrooms will have a new en-suite added to create a nice guest room area for friends and family
