Container Nature Reserve
Location: East London
Program: New Home
Area: 4 Containers and Steel
Date: May 2017
Progress: Design
Located just outside of East London on a nature reserve is this client's incredible plot for a container home for a family of four. The site is home to abundant wildlife, making outdoor spaces with panoramic views of the surrounding reserve essential. Downstairs-living areas open onto large decked spaces, while bedrooms have their own spacious balconies upstairs.
The entrance foyer with the front deck will have a timber door leading to the interior. The double-volume staircase next to this door is to have a glazed facade, allowing illuminating light into the central spaces. The entertainment deck to the front of the property will consist of large sliding stacking doors leading to the deck and pool. Upstairs, a narrow walkway will lead to the two separate bedroom wings and two end balconies. This configuration creates a lovely double-volume space for the downstairs spaces, while also creating natural lighting and cross-ventilation for both downstairs and upstair spaces.
This four-bedroom home will comprise a ground floor entertainment area with a private study and guest room with a bathroom. A central kitchen space with a large island is perfect for entertaining. The scullery to the left ensures that public areas remain neat and tidy. A spacious living and dining area will lead off from the kitchen and create perfect spaces to socialize in. The first floor is designed with the main bedroom, dressing area and en-suite along with the two kids' rooms and their own bathroom.
Large glazed windows and doors will ensure adequate lighting, natural ventilation, and a breathtaking design. Large roof overhangs and recessed glazed elements will also ensure adequate shading in summer to avoid solar heat gain. This home's interior is sure to live up to its breathtaking surrounds.
