Container Jeffreys Bay
Location: Jeffreys Bay, EC
Program: House
Area: 240sqm
Progress: Council
Set in the surf town of Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape, the owners wanted to create something unique and push the limits of green design. Using only 3 x 12M containers with a central hybrid structure with two opposing floating roof structures creating a stunning double volume space in not only the central structure but in other nooks of the house.
The ground floor will host a large double volume dining, lounge and small living area with a central floating staircase dividing the dining and lounge area. To the North-West there will be the kitchen area, a small scullery, guest bathroom and a bedroom leading onto the front deck space. To the North-East there will be a large study space, a second bedroom with en-suite bathroom also leading to the front deck area. Each bedroom will have a small portion jut out into the double volume space creating a stunning ceiling space above the beds.
On the North side of the house there will be a freshwater pool with a large decked space and pergola to shelter during summer months.
The first floor will consist of the main bedroom which is completely open plan. To the North-West there will be a large dressing area with small study space. The bed will be located centrally with large stacking doors opening out onto a private balcony to the South-East side. On the North-East there will be a large en-suite bathroom.
All windows will be double-glazed, trees will be planted around the property to shade and cool prevailing breezes. Rainwater tanks will be located on either side of the roof structures for rainwater collection which will then be used around the property. Large overhangs and pergola's will ensure that windows are adequately shaded in summer so the owner can enjoy the decked spaces without overheating.
